All my sympathies, condolences and prayers are with the Imperial Family and people of Japan at this terrible time.
This Japanese disaster makes me even more impatient with the Belgian tempest-in-a-teapot that has been dragging on for so many months. While others are struggling with genuine tragedies, it is all the more ridiculous to fritter away one's time and energy on artificial problems and frivolous grievances.

In the midst of what is happening in Japan, I am so awe-struck by the quiet dignity of the Japanese people. The news reports show people quietly enduring their losses or patiently queuing for food and basic supplies...Many, of course, must be in shock but the whole response of the people in the middle that devastation is truly incredible. What strength of character!
It really does throw everything else into a different perspective, doesn't it?
I wonder, too, why it takes such a tragedy for the countries and peoples of the world to stop squabbling over petty things and come together instead as human beings.
